Midwestern mezzo-soprano, Samantha Schmitz, is known for her rich and full, yet flexible voice and vibrant character on both the concert and operatic stage. Frequently making the jump from stage to studio, Samantha is a sought-after educator and performer. On the stage, she has been seen in roles such as Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Le Prince Charmant (Cendrillon), Mercédès (Carmen), Flower Woman (A Streetcar Named Desire), Dritte Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Public Opinion (Orpheus in the Underworld), and Maria (The Sound of Music).
Ms. Schmitz holds an MM in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of North Texas where she studied under the tutelage of mezzo-soprano Molly Fillmore. Additionally, she earned a BM in Vocal Music Education from Iowa State University, graduating summa cum laude. The combination of these degrees makes Samantha a uniquely qualified educator as she brings specific pedagogical knowledge about both the human voice and various learning styles to the classroom and private studio.
As an arts administrator, Ms. Schmitz has experience managing a large number of students, creating schedules, planning masterclasses, and ensuring quality instruction. She also enjoys bringing arts into the community through a variety of productions, concerts, and lessons. Samantha believes that music is for all and should be readily accessible.
